The couple depicts an old traditional Chinese couple returning from a day of fishing. They are both carrying a yoke on their shoulders, with removable buckets suspended on either end. They are hand painted with several nuances of blue; from rich cobalt blue, to a lighter azure blue, and accented with gold leaf trim. The artist carefully infused the faces of the couple with dignity and emotion.
