Here are our community rules:
Let's create a positive local community spirit! Please be courteous and nice with one another.
A. You must go in order of the interest in line. Marking the 'interested' icon, typing 'next', 'want', 'interested', or asking a question DOES put you in line. Private messaging the seller without commenting on the post does NOT put you in line. The seller must give each person in line at least 12-hour response time before moving on the next person in line. After you have received a response, if you both have not agreed upon a meet for exchange within a reasonable amount of time (use fair and mature judgment here please), then you may move to the next person in line as well. A helpful hint: if you tag the seller's full name on the post, and then send them a private message about meeting, they will be notified for sure. That will help with any discrepancies regarding implications of not being notified.
B. When discussing meet times and places, please perform this through private messaging. This is to help insure the safety of this community and it's members. When you post publicly, it is just that, public.
C. Private messaging is called 'private' for a reason. Private messages are not to be photographed and then posted publicly during a dispute. Please take all legitimate concerns to admin. Be respectful of each other.
D. When scheduling your meets it is highly recommended to meet in a public place. Both parties should concur on a mutually safe and convenient time and place. Porch pick-ups are up to the individuals within a transaction, but if a buyer or seller is uncomfortable with this, it should not be used as a mandate in dealing with the item. No one is obligated to deliver or pick up at your home. Both parties should be willing to put in the effort it takes to complete a transaction. Keep it simple. This is supposed to be fun and productive, not frustrating. Use your BEST judgment, these people are your community after all.
E. Transactions are between the buyer and seller only. Admins do not get involved in member transactions and cannot dictate to a member who they should sell to or buy from. Sales are final. Pay attention to what you are purchasing, and if you are dissatisfied when viewing an item, don't buy it. The interested party is not obligated to purchase anything, they are obligated however, to follow through with their meets. Members who are consistent no-shows without notifying the other member within a transaction will be, without question, deleted from this community. We all have busy lives and can understand life happenings, but to blatantly waste people's time will not be tolerated.
F. Garage Sales - When posting any sort of sale PLEASE include full dates and times of your sale. When your sale ceases, please delete your post about it as if you were marking one of your items sold or taking down physical signs in your neighborhood. This will save much time and lessen confusion for all involved. Also, if you are having a sale, and you also have the same items in the sale posted individually, you are not to reserve an item for a member and then sell that item in your sale. Although your garage sale may be a first come, first serve basis, the Gardner Community is in fact, not. If you don't have the intention of following through with the reserved party then please do not commit to doing so. If it deems a problem, it will be considered double-posting, and habitual offenders will have their posts deleted.
G. You must list your items with a price. If the seller and interested party agree to a different sale amount privately that is between them, but we do not 'make an offer' or 'OBO' our listings. Lowering your prices is up to the seller's discretion, however, you may only raise you price, if there is no current interest, comments, and/or pending transaction.
H. Please do not post items that are prohibited on VarageSale, including but not limited to counterfeit/replica items, regulated items (weapons, alcohol, tobacco) and gambling-related items (anything you have to be of legal adult age to purchase). You can see the full list of prohibited items here: http://help.varagesale.com/article/371-what-items-are-not-allowed. This includes but is not limited to things that pertain to the regulated item, such as bullets in regards to a gun. If it is related to the weapon it is also prohibited. There are no exceptions.
I. Small businesses are limited to one ad posted in the Small Business Directory. Any small business posts found outside of this category (including direct sales such as Tupperware, Scentsy, etc.) will be removed. Your small business category items do not include the 'bump' feature. This site isn't an advertising agency, therefore consider being able to list your direct sales and having a section for just that, a bonus feature.
J. When posting a car seat, you must include the manufacture and/or expiration date in the item description for safety reasons (this can usually be found on a sticker under the seat). Car seats that have been in an accident are illegal for resale.
K. Household pets and animals are not permitted. This includes but is not limited to dogs, cats, rabbits, ferrets; rodents such as gerbils and hamsters; avian pets, such as canaries, and parrots; reptile pets, such as turtles, lizards and snakes; aquatic pets, such as goldfish and frogs; and arthropod pets, such as tarantulas and hermit crabs.
L. Items that are posted on more than one site need to be noted as such in the item's description. Cross-posted (x-posted) needs to be in the post for not just different selling sites, but within the Varage Sale app as well. If you belong to more than one community, please be aware of which you are posting in and make sure you are willing to make the transaction per those communities' guidelines. If you are posting in more than one VS community it is also considered cross-posting.
Have fun and happy shopping!
