Vintage Clear Glass Hen in a Basket Lidded Dish.
Small size Hen Dish in clear glass. Often referred to as the “Mystery Hen”, this has recently been shown to be a product of Hocking Glass Company, NOT Indiana Glass. This smaller version has a base with a cross-hatched or basket-weave style pattern on the sides and was made in clear glass. Diagonal-oriented lines cross each other at right angles to form, more or less, a pattern of interconnected diamonds.
This Hen has Red glazed paint on the top of her Comb and Waddles. It is very slightly worn by age (so slightly as you can not see it in the images) but is not cold paint. Her face is very detailed, as are her body and tail feathers. The bottom part of the dish is designed as a woven basket.
The overall height is approximately 3 3/4” tall, and the length is about 4 1/2”.
This is in very good condition, with one tiny chip that can’t be seen unless you know it is there, but no other cracks or marks.
This is from the B.L. Collection.
