Excellent Pre-Owned Condition. Pickup in Olathe. No Holds.
This graceful duo’s optic ribbed pattern is faint and quite lovely to look at. The pair belonged to my mom, who had a limited but unique collection of vintage green glassware. She no longer has a need, might you? When discussing Vaseline glass in the United States, collectors are typically referring to a type of vintage glass that is yellow or yellow-green in normal light and glows bright green under a blacklight. According to David Patterson, a founding board member of Vaseline Glass Collectors, Inc. (http://www.go-star.com/anti...), "Vaseline glass is a transparent, yellow-green glass that will fluoresce a bright green color when exposed to any ultraviolet light source, due to the addition of a 1%-2% amount of uranium dioxide in the original glass formula. The transparent quality may be obscured by treatments such as opalescent, carnival, iridizing, stretch, satinizing, sand or acid etching, casing, inclusion and cutting treatments. Hand painted and applied decorations are also acceptable. These treatments do not change the original transparent quality of the glass. The name Vaseline glass is due to the similarity of the color to that of petroleum jelly as it appeared in 1901." AND "According to the most widely used definition, Vaseline glass has to first be yellow-green and THEN has to glow a bright neon green under a blacklight. If it does not pass the first condition, then the second condition does not apply.”
This duo’s color, under normal light, is almost a transparent yellowish green; under a blacklight the stem, base and bottom of the goblets glow bright green (see photos). Capacity per goblet 6 oz. Each measures 7” x 3½” x 2¾” H/D/D and weigh 5 oz. apiece. In excellent pre-owned condition with a few occlusions that are original to the manufacturer and typical of glassware of this era. If you’re a collector of elegant Vaseline glass, this gorgeous duo might be a great add to that collection!
Thanks for looking!
