Bought new, installed in car (it goes over the armrest between the two front seats). In theory, the dog doesn't like to step on the prickly surface, and will stay in the back. Unfortunately, my psycho track star dog simply leaped over the whole thing, clearing it by a good foot. Should work for normal dogs. Pick up in Hamilton, just off Rt. 7, no dirt roads.
