It is very easy to grow compared to big sweet peppers. No pest and no animals wants to eat it. We may be the only animals who likes it.
Light: At least 6 hours. It makes more fruits with more light.
Soil: light and rich will make more fruits. Potting soil with added compost could be used if planted in pots. If using garden soil, a mix of 1/3 compost, 1/3 garden soil and 1/3 vermiculite or perlite can be used. Perlite and vermiculite are available in 2 square feet bag at Perlite Canada in Dorval.
Planting it in pots is quite good. It gives it more heat in the early and late season but it needs to be watered daily in hot season.
If you want to get fruits sooner, you could start the seeds now. When the weather is warm above 10C and sunny outside, the plants can be put outside during the day and brought back in during the night. When the overnight temperature is 10 or above, the plants can be left outside. I put the seedlings on a table to reduce the chance that it could be disturbed by animals in early spring. In fact, pepper plants do not die if the temperature is above zero. In late fall, when closing the garden, the peppers can be harvested and so can the leaves. The leaves are delicious to make soup or just steamed. It is very healthy and not spicy, similar to spinach.
Hot peppers can be fermented easily in a Mason jar and made into chilli sauce with vinegar, honey, salt and other spices or fermented garlic.

The second photo shows the two pepper plants I am growing hydroponically. They can be transplanted into flower beds or pots after the last frost day. Some people even grow their vegetables hydroponically outdoor.
